This blog is for our entertainment and everything herein should be taken with the seriousness that it deserves...or not. It is merely meant as means to share information with family members and friends. Non-credited photos were taken by me. Postings will include; genealogy and family history information, photography, travels, other interests, and whatever else we decide to post.
This blog is partially in response to a genealogy blog challenge #52ancestors by Amy Johnson Crow. Her challenge is designed to motivate slugs such as me, to research at least one relative / family member or other aspect of family history a week; and to share this with family members or others who may be interested. Each week she provides a possible topic to prompt participants. The prompt for week 1 was, Start. What got you interested in genealogy. For me that was fairly easy, it was an old map that my maternal grandmother had; that her family obtained prior to leaving Prussia for the United States in the 1800s. I was fascinated by this german language map growing up and constantly prodded my mother for it. She relented several years ago, it currently hangs in our house.
Fortunately my Aunt Susan did a family history on my mom's (Fouch/Schuttler) side of the family. She did this back in the dark ages; as in the mimeograph and xerox machine; pre-ancestry.com and using snail mail...wow This is proving to be an excellent resource.
Genealogy related - generations will be designated on their generational distance from me. I will likely run the more distant ancestors to a point where they tie into the last name of one my four grandparents; Hurd, Bell, Fouch or Shuttler.
If the number of "Grandparents" doubles every generation (not necessarily accurate as I have found out), if you were to go back 10 generations that would be 1024 direct line ancestors. (does not include siblings)
For starters here is a partial listing of surnames:
Hurd, Bell, Nutterfee (under several spellings), Adams, Vanatta, Spears, Inman, Perrin, Schuttler (several spellings), Fouch, Staats (several spellings) Wilson, Brady, Malone, McGuire, Hines, Gardner, McClintock, Reed, Miller, Landess, Reynolds, Bryan, Hull, Devosse, McWilliams, Nimmo, Ulrich, Stadler,Bakka...doing this from memory but you get the idea.
